Today is International Mother Language Day and our blog is turning multilingual today. We are hosting a series of blog posts by different authors, illustrators, parents, educators and children – sharing their thoughts on languages and more. International Mother Language Day is an observance held annually on 21 February worldwide to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. 2015 is the 15th anniversary of International Mother Language Day.
This post has been written by Vidya Bettada Choudhuri, our in-house Kannada guru! Here she talks about how, as kids, she and her friend Asha waited for Chandamama to arrive, and how they devoured the Vikram-Betal stories. After a childhood spent with Bombemane, Champak and Chandamama, Vidya is thrilled that she can continue her friendship with books at Pratham Books, helping to get good, affordable books in 16 languages. Somewhere, a Vidya and an Asha must be waiting eagerly for our books, she feels….
