Today is International Mother Language Day and our blog is turning multilingual today. We are hosting a series of blog posts by different authors, illustrators, parents, educators and children – sharing their thoughts on languages and more. International Mother Language Day is an observance held annually on 21 February worldwide to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. 2015 is the 15th anniversary of International Mother Language Day.
This post was sent by Vasant Makwana. His write up is about “I am from Gujarat and my mother tongue Gujarati”. He talks about mother tongue as a medium for communication as a child grows up. He talks of the ease and understanding he has in reading and writing in Gujarati, in an environment where there are many unknown languages, there is a special good feeling in meeting someone who speaks the same language.
Vasant Makwana is a born teacher – he has a knack to communicate with children through finger games, drawing pictures of birds, and coming down to the level of the child. Vasant is the State Head for Pratham in Gujarat
