Yay! We are happy to report that swimmer Virdhawal Khade has just qualified to take part in the swimming championships at the London Olympics. A GoSports Foundation scholar, Virdhawal Khade qualified after meeting the requirements for the 100m freestyle event at the 14th FINA World Championships in Shanghai. He clocked 50.34s in the event. Viru is ranked 122 in the 50m butterfly event in the world. At 20, this will be his second Olympics outing. GoSports Foundation trustee and former Olympian Hakimudin S Habibula says, “This is a historic moment for India as for the first time Indian swimmers have qualified for consecutive Olympic events.”
Pratham Books brought out a book about the swimmer, ‘Kolhapur to Beijing – Freestyle!‘ in English, Hindi, Kannada, Urdu, Gujarati, Telugu, Marathi and Tamil. We would like to see more and more children participating in sports and enjoy the benefits of being healthy in body, mind and spirit.
