Leave Your Mark: The Visual Libraries Project

British Council, Chennai is joining hands with Portsmouth Central Library and The University of Portsmouth in the UK in an exciting and innovative project – ‘Leave Your Mark: The Visual Libraries Project’. The Project aims to develop critical and creative skills among children and teens. Main objective of this project is to collaborate with local schools and community centres to extend the project and link all the innovative work done in Portsmouth to international partners and vice versa.
In addition, a touring exhibition of sketchbooks from libraries in Portsmouth, India and the US is planned for the future. A Visual Library Book is whatever you want it to be, a sketchbook, a journal, a diary, and a notepad. The project is now in a stage demonstrating that it can work positively and creatively with a range of groups, including children, young adults and people with physical and learning. The Project has partnered with two schools, two colleges and one special school.
Beginning 26 October, 2010, an exclusive area in the Chennai office of British Council India has been dedicated for the display of Visual Libraries on current themes – I Love Books, Go Green and Narrow Streets. Visitors are encouraged to fill the sketch books with their instant thoughts. The display will continue till 11 December, 2010.
