The Great Indian Children’s Literature Reading Project

Tharini Viswanath sent us this email about a project she is working on …
As a part of my work at BLPS ( Book Lovers Program in Schools, a Chennai-based organization), I have undertaken this MASSIVE project – compiling a list of 500 must read books for school kids between the age groups of 5 and 13. The idea is to make a list books that every Indian child must read before he/she grows up.

Pile of vintage Ladybird books

Have you ever felt that it sucked to be a kid because your choice of books was limited and your parents didn’t quite know what to get you to read? That’s why BLPS is starting a project called GICLERP (The Great Indian Children’s Literature and Reading Project) and putting together a list of some must read books for Indian kids between the ages of 6 and 13.

Here is a form. Fill it up with books you think kids should be reading.

(GICLERP has already got tons of suggestions to include Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton, CS Lewis and JK Rowling to the list. And it has. So don’t include those.)
