Dream to See Women Join the Armed Forces

Thirteen year old Shreya Rathore’s dream is to see more women join the armed forces. She writes…

I am an average girl of 13 years, but that doesn’t stop me from dreaming big. I may not be me from thinking big. I may not be as powerful as Kiran Bedi, or Mother Teresa, but these ladies have inspired me, and have made it clear that women can do anything men can. In our country, though discrimination against girls is said to have been forgotten, why is it that every now and then, one thing or another just pops up? My dream is to have women steer the military forces, and like many other dreams I’ve had, I will do anything I can to make this a reality.

I want to see a woman, in the armed forces, being able to motivate, lead, and command the battalions and reach the top position, not being known only for their courage and valour, but also for their administrative, and executive skills. I’ve had many visions imagining protecting our borders, proudly saying that I am a woman. I want India to see that if we dream, anything is possible. To make my dream come true, I have taken up an interest in sports, to prepare me for the challenge ahead. While I’m striving to become a better sportswoman, I am also concentrating on my studies, for that is absolutely essential.
It is my desire, not only to make us Indians proud, but also to prove to the world that we’re capable of anything and everything. Though many people discourage me, and laugh at me, I know that in the end, I will succeed. My parents have stuck to my side, and have motivated, and encouraged me to dream bigger and higher still. As Dale Carnegie said:
The person who gets the farthest is generally the one who’s willing to do and dare. The
sure-thing boat never gets far from shore.
