The Magic Trick : Jason Dvorak’s Story for the #6FrameStoryChallenge
On why Jason took up the challenge:
The Challenge, obviously – though that requires explanation. I only just found out about it the day of the deadline (Laughs). With that kind of pressure, I wanted to see if I could pull off the requirements and still produce something I’d be proud of. The need for 6 words and dialogue-free situation really demanded a creative approach to story telling. Add in the small window of work time available and it was a “can’t pass up” situation.
It was great – I thoroughly enjoyed the word selection. There was just enough variety and overlap to
allow for an infinite amount of choices. The submission I provided was actually my 2nd attempt. My
original had the words ‘train’ and ‘rainbow’ in play, but the train would have taken too much time to
color. When I spotted the Umbrella, the idea of the magician accidentally “reversing” the situation
instantly came to mind.
I was also shocked by the quick, friendly response from the team asking for a follow-up email.
Knowing there was actually a human on the other side and not some random server where entries go
die really made me smile. Any challenge that requires quick thinking and creativity that’s supported by
a friendly staff will always work for me.
