Pratham Books Champion : Vikas Saini

As part of Litworld’s World Read Aloud Daycelebrations, we decided to ask our community if they would conduct storytelling sessions in their cities. 50 awesome champions decided to take part and ‘celebrate the power of words’. We will be sharing the stories of all our champions through our blog.

Today’s story comes from Vikas Saini who conducted a storytelling session in Delhi. Vikas is a second year Fellow with Teach For India. Last year he taught 3rd Grade in Modern English Medium School, Kamraj Nagar, Ghatkopar(E), Mumbai and this year he is teaching 2nd Grade in a Municipal (MCD) school in Adarsh Nagar, Delhi. Before joining Teach For India, Vikas was pursuing a masters in Chemistry from IIT Delhi. He loves hanging out with friends and watching a lot of movies.
Vikas writes …
Our grade 2 kids from Nigam Pratibha Co-Ed School, Bhadolla Village, Delhi were told in the morning that there will be something special for them today. They were all curious till the lunch break and kept asking “Bhaiya, what is the surprise?” As the lunch break got over I told them that today is World Read Aloud Day and we are going to read an amazing story. They got really excited when I told them that thousands of kids across India are going to read the same story as theirs. The colorful “Pratham Books Champion” poster added an extra spark to their excitement.

We read the story “Indradhanush Par Baithi Titli” and I was able to see the changing expressions on their faces as the story progressed. The fact that a caterpillar turns into a butterfly came as a new knowledge to many of them. In the end they all drew pictures of butterfly and colored them in Rainbow pattern.
Over all we had a fun filled storytelling session.
