The Networked Student

An earlier post talked about ‘Technology and Its Impact‘ and there was also this post about ‘Understanding What Your Kids are Doing Online‘.
The “Networked Student” is an example of how learning patterns may change with the tools available to us. The video follows how a student of American Psychology goes about studying in this new sphere. The theory of ‘connectivism’ i.e. ‘learning occurs as part of a social network of many diverse connections and ties made possible through various tools and technology’ is thrown up. The student enhances his knowledge through his personal learning networks, online library databases, social booksmarking sites, blogs, creation of knowledge bases, online courses, videos and so on. The role of the teacher is also emphasized upon. What is your take on the ‘networked student’?

Thank you so much for posting the video. Just one clarification. The students in this model are not necessarily expected to function on their own. They are still guided by a teacher or facilitator who is there to help them organize the personal learning network and find outlets for further exploration. Ultimately, they chart their own path. But, there is a lot of guidance to help them get to that point, especially in a k12 setting.
