Bookaroo in the City (Day 1) : Anupa Lal

Have you ever fallen into the pages of a book and fallen off your chair laughing? Have you ever smelled the earth as you see the picture of rain falling on parched mud? Pratham Books brings you such magic in your world with books! Pratham Books is proud to present “Bookaroo in the City” across several schools in Delhi.

Storyteller Anupa Lal writes about her experience …

It was a morning of surprises on Tuesday, 8th November, the first day of Bookaroo in the City 2011.

Accompanied by Shashank Tewari, a courteous and articulate student volunteer from Delhi University, I set off at 8 a.m. for a storytelling session in the AGCR Kendriya Vidyalaya in East Delhi.

The first surprise was that we reached in an hour, instead of the anticipated one and a half to two hours.

The second surprise was that the school was not expecting us! There had been a breakdown in communication somewhere along the way. Luckily the problem proved to be a minor one and was soon sorted out.

The third and most pleasant surprise was that most of the bright and cheerful kids of classes 2 and 3, that I told stories to, regularly heard stories from their parents or grandparents. This warmed my heart!

We had a lively session and I left, feeling happy that Paplu the Giant and Two Brave Rabbits had made the acquaintance of more children!
