Book Review : Found it at last
This book review comes from Nanda Ramesh who received our book ‘Found it at last’.
Most of us adults have lost the ability to enjoy the many small mundane incidents in our lives. Children however relish every one of them as exciting and an adventure by itself. This book is about one such common incident which each and every child will experience many times when they are growing up.
“Found it at last” is a simple story of a ball getting lost and the children searching for it around their neighbourhood. They hunt for the ball by looking in different possible places like under a cart and in a ditch. Tommy, the dog gives them a thrill by finally finding the ball and trying to run away with it.
The story is brought to life by large illustrations which are quite detailed right down to posters on the wall. The location depicted is of a typical narrow side street or alley in urban India. There is only one line of text on each page making it appropriate for the young or beginning readers. The text is bi-lingual, that is 2 languages (English-Kannada) are provided on each page enabling a child to learn a new language or just map one to another. A nice activity is suggested at the end which parents can participate with young children.
Overall, the book describes a common occurrences in simple language and vivid illustration that every small child can easily relate to. It is a book that they can keep going back, just to relive the incident by looking at the illustrations and reading the short sentences.
