To celebrate Bangalore’s literary cultures, Toto Funds the Arts (which supports and rewards creative writing, photography and music among young people), Sangam House (an international writers’ residency program), Desha Kaala (a journal for arts and letters in Kannada) and Reading Hour have come together to organise a literary weekend in Februrary. The city’s literary riches have yet to be show-cased in a single multi-lingual event and so, we plan to bring together writers in many languages as well as their pluralistic audiences over a three-day period of readings, discussions and small performances.
We are committed to bringing together the diverse literary worlds that the city holds within itself, worlds that rarely have a chance to interact with each other.
The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), which is housed in Manikyavelu Mansion, a refurbished heritage building, will be the primary venue for the literary sessions. Readings will be on the shady library terrace as well as in other open spaces around the NGMA compound.
We will also be using the Smriti Nandan auditorium across the street from NGMA for niche events and for Sankar’s, the book store for Lekhana.
All sessions are free of charge and open to the public. We look forward to having you with us over the weekend of February 10-12.
