1. CONFERENCE ON GREEN PUBLISHING ORGANIZED BY TERI (Via The Publisher’s Post)
The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) is organizing a stakeholders’ conference on ecological and sustainable publishing practices in New Delhi on 14 March 2009. The event titled Pathways to Green Publishing: industry perspectives on the economics of ecological publishing will attempt to bring together all the stakeholders involved in the process of publishing – publishers, printers, paper manufacturers, authors, students, and the media – on a platform to discuss the enormous environmental issues plaguing the industry as a whole.

2. SCHOOL FOR ENTREPRENEURS, INDIA – GRANT COMPETITION

To find the best school-based income-generating initiatives in India, projects which are both educational and financially sustainable. The competition represents a great chance to unleash students’ and teachers’ natural entrepreneurship, harness local creativity, and build momentum for ‘Education That Pays For Itself’ across India. From student-run cybercafés funding classroom improvements, to schoolyard chicken-runs laying aside profits to pay for books, the competition aims to encourage education initiatives to come up with ways to boost their financial resources at the same time as teaching practical and business skills to their students.The deadline to apply is April 1, 2009.

3. AGRA LITERARY FEST: DEBATE ON TERROR (Via The Publisher’s Post)

Nearly 60 writers, poets and scholars from eight south Asian countries will debate and discuss terrorism, ethnic angst and popular culture at the SAARC Festival of Literature in Agra March 12-16. “The focus this year is on terrorism. The foundation is organising the festival at a time when expectations from the creative fraternity and peace activists have soared in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai and sensitivities of the creative fraternity across the SAARC region, particularly in Pakistan and India, are shaken and bruised,” Ajeet Caur, eminent short story writer and the mother of artist Arpana Caur, told IANS.

4. SEND YOUR DESIGNS FOR PSFK CONFERENCE NYC 2009

As part of this year’s PSFK Conference NYC, we’re asking you to get creative to get a ticket. At PSFK, everything we do – from what we feature on our site, to the consultancy we provide, to the events we host – is based around a simple idea: to inspire you to make things better. As an extension of this, we’re asking you to have a go at creating a poster design (it can be of any form – hand drawn, digital graphic, screenprint, wheat paste, etc) that will be shown at out upcoming conference on April 2. The only constraints are that the graphic must include the words “PSFK Conference”, either be 20×30 inches or PowerPoint slide size (or both) AND in some creative way, reflect the ethos of PSFK and our readers – the drive to seek out and use new ideas to make the world around us better.All designs are due by 6PM EST Friday, March 20.
