Are you a writer and/or illustrator from South East Asia or a Tamil/Hindi/Chinese/Malay translator who wants to create amazing picture books for kids?

Then join us for an exciting two-day virtual hackathon, jointly organised by Pratham Books and the Singapore Book Council, running up to the 2022 Asian Festival of Children’s Content! There is no registration fee for this workshop.

Open to all writers and illustrators from South East Asia; and Tamil, Hindi, Chinese and Malay translators from South Asia. Selected applicants will be required to attend a hackathon workshop over the course of two days. During the workshop, participants will be assigned into groups to produce a picture book.

Selected participants will be required to sign a contract, releasing all work created during the hackathon under a CCBY 4.0 licence. This is an open licence that enables access to books to disenfranchised people across the world.

Your work can be in any of these languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, Chinese, Malay. The medium of instruction will be English, so a working knowledge of the language may be needed.

For illustrators:

Please submit an original character design, with a small write-up on why you thought of this character, your portfolio and your bio to [email protected] with the subject AFCC Build Your Book.
