A heartwarming story of children discovering the joy of reading in rural Bihar

Last year through our fundraising platform Donate-a-Book, Abdul Kalam Library in Rajauli, Bihar received two Libray-in-a-Classroom kits. A Library-in-a-Classroom is a portable library that can be mounted on walls and can hold 100 multilingual storybooks from Pratham Books.

On Dr APJ Abdul Kalam memorial day this year, as part of their campaign Pehlay Akshar, volunteers visited the library. They had been teaching 20 children from underprivileged communities in Pranchak village to read. On 27th July, when the volunteers paid the children a visit with a few multilingual storybooks from Pratham Books, they were in for a sweet surprise. The children showed a remarkable improvement in their ability to read independently. In just a span of four months, they were able to enjoy the storybooks sent to them by generous donors.

We’re thrilled to see the children discover the joy of reading in the photographs sent by the proud and happy volunteers. If you would like to make a difference in the lives of many more children who are waiting to read storybooks, visit our website to donate to any of the ongoing fundraisers. Click here to donate.
