At Pratham Books, we believe that every child has the right to enjoy good books. And we believe they should have stories set in surroundings familiar to them and in a language close to their culture. We believe that to make books accessible to every child, the price points have to be very low. Pratham Books is a brand of story books as Indian as the children who read them. As a not-for-profit publisher, our dream is to see a country where every child wants to read, is able to read, and has something good to read.
With a range of stories created to excite children with different likes and tastes, the books are illustrated by some of the most enthusiastic and talented illustrators. Our aim is to have something good for every child, in every part of the country, and in the process spread the joy of reading far and wide.
In the last decade, Pratham Books has published over 300 original titles in 18 Indian languages, which total up to about 2000 books. The books cover a range of genres including early readers, fiction, non-fiction, and storybooks on science, history, mathematics and nature. They have had the distinction of working with many of the country's renowned authors and illustrators and their books have won several awards as well. Our vision is to reach 200 million children in India, and we hope to someday put 'a book in every child's hand'.

Donate-a-Book is a unique crowd funding initiative by Pratham Books to help bridge the gap between those who want to help children read and those who need books for children. The idea is to build a Reading India together by making storybooks accessible to thousands of children and spread the joy of reading.
Pratham Books was founded with the mission of putting “a book in every child’s hand”. To this end, we’ve spent a decade creating exciting, engaging stories for children, in Indian languages, and creating access to them, all across the length and breadth of India. Along the way, we came to realize that there are many organizations and individuals who want books but do not have resources to procure them. Similarly, there are thousands of good Samaritans who would love to help children read, but are unaware of how to do so.
This led to the idea of a crowd-funding initiative – this initiative! That would make it easy to help India’s children read.
Donate-a-Book enables one -at an individual or organizational level - to set up campaigns to raise funds for books for libraries, reading programs or storytelling sessions. Once the campaign reaches its end date or meets the goal (whichever comes earlier), one gets to select a collection of wonderful books across 6 languages from Pratham Books for the same amount.
As a Donor, all one needs to do is pick up a cause one cares most for and support. With a few clicks a donor can send a set of books to a group of children to discover, read and enjoy!
Within a month of its launch, Donate-a-Book had raised over 16,000 books with 21+ campaigns reaching 100% of their funding goal!
Our sole aim is to see more Indian children read, and that is why every rupee donated on this platform goes towards the books, and ensuring they reach the children for whom they are meant.
At Donate-a-Book we connect those who need children's books across India, with those who can help get these books to them.
