So many illustrators who have been participating in the #6FrameStoryChallenge have been telling us that playing with the random words presented in the Word Wishlist was an adventure on its own. Tanvi Bhat went on to tell us ‘When I started out, a few words in the wishlist were especially jumping out at me. As I began drawing, this
strange story almost took shape on it’s own. Even I was surprised at the absurdity of it but that’s the beauty
of this campaign.’ We love how Tanvi has used watercolours to create her narrative and the little details one gets to see in each frame – from cactii houses to the glow worms, from the wallpapered walls to the trees by the river. Go on and find out what happens in ‘The Lost Birthday’.
The idea that a publisher, illustrators and authors get together to create an open source database of art
and endless stories was so exciting. I had to be a part of it.
The lovely people at Pratham Books, by the looks of it, will not rest until every eager child has a storybook
in his/her hands.
It took me 2 days to finish it and it was a race against time but worth every minute of it!
(Tanvi Bhat is a freelance illustrator who lives in Mumbai and loves the rains. She’s a self-taught artist who
loves to draw for children’s books. In the past few years she’s illustrated various books with Pratham
Books, Amar Chitra Katha, Karadi Tales, Duckbill Books and Tulika Books. She’s also conducted
illustration workshops at various literature festivals like Kala Ghoda & Junior Writers Bug. She works with
water colors and gouache and gets her inspiration from things she sees when out exploring the streets of
