As part of Litworld’s World Read Aloud Day celebrations, we decided to ask our community if they would conduct storytelling sessions in their cities. 50 awesome champions decided to take part and ‘celebrate the power of words’. We will be sharing the stories of all our champions through our blog.
Today’s story comes from Smitha H.S. who conducted a storytelling session in Bangalore. Smitha describes herself as ‘a mother of two hyper active kids and used to be a busy IT professional in my previous life’. She now enjoys spending time with her kids while working part-time for a legal services company. Her kids love stories and she loves reading out stories to them! Stories from Pratham Books are an all-time favorite whether read out from a book or an ipad (scribd and speak-a-book app rock!). Her 5 year old’s favorite list includes Bani, The sparrow and Fruit and the Sringeri Srinivasa series and she has lost count of the times she has read these to him since he was a 3 year old!
Smitha writes …
Funny as it may seem, I was nervous at first to read out a story to 26 preschoolers. But I had a great story to tell and was sure kids would love it.
The kids at Parilok, Basaveshwarnagar ,Bangalore a montessori home that my daughter attends are a happy bunch and all of them are under the age of 4. They loved the story of Lonely Lenny who advertises for a friend, and then is surprised to find one right under his nose. The story, pictures and illustrations regaled them beyond my expectations.
At the end some kids came up on their own and told me who their favorite friend is and what games they love to play together! It was good fun 🙂
