Climate Story Sessions with Pratham Books

Help bring climate stories to children and nurture the next generation of climate‑aware citizens!

Pratham Books is inviting storytellers, teachers, librarians, reading champions, NGOs and community libraries to join a special series of climate‑centered storytelling sessions for children in March 2026. Through these sessions, you will help children discover the joy of stories while gently introducing them to climate and environment concepts that matter for their future.

We have developed a climate education reading package using four beautifully illustrated picture books in Marathi, Kannada and Hindi. Through these stories, children in Grades 1–5 will explore rivers, rain, waste, weather and everyday actions that help care for our planet.

You can explore the books on our open digital platform, StoryWeaver:

  1. We brought the river home – written by Amrita Dutta and illustrated by Kabini Amin
  2. Sorted! – written by Karthik Natarajan and illustrated by Poojana Prasanna
  3. Baadal Jab Ghar Aaye – a Hindi‑first book, written and illustrated by Ramesh Laxman Hengadi and translated by Shinibali Mitra Saigal
  4. Ira’s Monsoon Feast – written by Mukta Patil and illustrated by Kavita Singh Kale

What the sessions look like

Each climate‑centred storytelling session will be a 45–60 minute slot with children in Grades 1-5, built around a read‑aloud of the selected picture book followed by a short discussion connecting the story to children’s daily lives, supported by 1–2 simple activities from ready‑to‑use activity sheets
Pratham Books will:

  • Provide physical or digital copies of the climate storybooks
  • Share ready‑to‑use activity sheets and session guidelines
  • Arrange facilitators/storytellers if required, or support your own educators to run the session

Sessions will be scheduled in consultation with partners and facilitators, and grouped by locality as far as possible.

If you are a storyteller / educator

We are looking for storytellers, teachers, librarians and reading champions who can facilitate climate‑themed story sessions in Marathi, Kannada or Hindi.
As a facilitator, you will:

  • Attend a one‑hour online orientation with other educators on how to deliver the activities
  • Conduct climate‑themed story sessions based on a given module in one or more venues
  • Fill a short feedback form after each session to share observations on children’s reactions and learning

Time commitment

  • Minimum: 2–4 sessions (on weekdays or weekends, as mutually agreed)
  • Each session: 45–60 minutes + a few minutes for feedback and coordination
  • If you are interested in facilitating these sessions, please fill up this short Expression of Interest form: https://forms.gle/rhuNAdV4k9bBmRaZA
