This Earth Day, let’s head to some of the more wondrous places on the planet. First stop, Antarctica, with geologist, Sudipta Sengupta. Then the forests of Mizoram with forest guard, Zakhuma Don. With detours across animal and bird homes, as well as some of the rarest wildlife there is to see.

Here’s a curated list featuring some of our favourite books about the Earth. And a nature- and environment-themed book set for fluent readers, too!

We Love Our Home, written by Karthika G and illustrated by Chaaya Prabhat: Look high and low and you will find animals and birds making their homes around you. Here’s a story about the habitats they live in.

The Magical Glasses, written by Padmaparna Ghosh and illustrated by Sayan Mukherjee: Mirium and Tejas have magic glasses. Join them as they use the glasses to look at seven animals and birds that are found only in certain parts of the world.

Walking in the Wild, written by Sejal Mehta and illustrated by Barkha Lohia: Take a walk with Zakhuma, a brave forest guard who lives in Mizoram. As Zakhuma takes us through his forest, we learn about the different animals and what it means to protect the jungle. Buy the book here.

The Red Fairy, written by Kamla Bhasin and illustrated by Tanvi Bhat: Little Meeto dreams about cars and knows everything about them. One day she meets Red Fairy, a car that can do things that no other car can. Buy the book here.

A Shade of Green, written by Rya Jetha and illustrated by Sourav Sarkar: The air in the city is grey and polluted. Nayantara and Aliza feel suffocated. They dream of leaves that work day and night to produce oxygen and clean energy. Can they invent a leaf that does all that?

Earth Calling Aru, written by Labanya Ghosh and illustrated by Gitanjali Iyer: Aru wants to fly, but gravity is keeping her firmly rooted to the ground. What if there was no gravity on Earth for a few minutes? Aru is about to find out.
