It’s not often that young poets and artists can actually get something in return for their work. The River of Words Poetry and Art Contest will award prizes to the best student submissions on the topic of watersheds. According to the contest website, “The contest is designed to help youth explore the natural and cultural history of the place they live, and to express, through poetry and art, what they discover.”Any child in the world aged 5-19 can enter. Four poets and four artists in four different age ranges (K-2, 3-6, 7-9, 10-12) will receive the grand prize — an all-expenses paid trip to the River of Words Award Ceremony at The Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The entry deadline is February 15, so now’s the time to start painting, photographing or poeming about watersheds in your area.
