If you read yesterday’s Bangalore Mirror, you’ll know that Harry Potter now has his very own video game – Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4, developed by Traveller’s Tales and published by Warner Brothers. Lego Harry Potter covers the important moments from the first four Harry Potter books, allowing the players to use spells like wingardium leviosa, lumos and even riddikulus, attend classes and a lot more. The players’ job, for the most part, is to collect as many colourful studs as they can. (These studs can be found in various objects that can be blasted into smithereens). Says Gieson Cacho in his review of the game,
“Traveller’s Tales’ take on the boy wizard isn’t just good — it’s amazing. Of all the Lego games, it’s by far the developer’s best work as the team manages to not only re-imagine Rowling’s world in bricks and studs — a feat in itself — but it also fits the book’s structure and settings into a sensible game design. the game may be confusing to the three people who haven’t read the books or seen movies. Those who know the plots will have an easier time with boss battles, generally knowing what to do. On the other hand, wizarding neophytes will find the lack of direction maddening.
“Lego Harry Potter” is made for the fans. It features the most complete take on the boy wizard’s world, even giving unique abilities to the huge cast of playable characters.
That kind of detail is unheard of, but it goes to show the kind of care Traveller’s Tales put into the project. For once, the game does the books justice, and that’s something you don’t see every day.”
