A Multilingual Celebration for International Mother Language Day

Today is International Mother Language Day and our blog is turning multilingual today. We are hosting a series of blog posts by different authors, illustrators, parents, educators and children – sharing their thoughts on languages and more. International Mother Language Day is an observance held annually on 21 February worldwide to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. 2015 is the 15th anniversary of International Mother Language Day.
A tweet by @GblReadingNtwk reminded us that it was International Mother Language Day today. This happened on Thursday afternoon and we wondered if we could turn our blog into a multilingual celebration of languages by Saturday. We sent out a mail and within a few minutes, we already had volunteers. The stories and posts started coming in and we’ve got a real language party happening on our blog today. Today is definitely going to be the day we’ve published the most number of posts in the most number of languages in one single day. We’ve scheduled posts to appear every half an hour (example : 9:30 am, 10 am, 10:30 am …). So, do come back and check out what is happening because we’ve there are lots of essays, personal narratives, notes from educators and more!
We are going to start this celebration with two stories that were sent in by Anika and Anvita Agarwal. Their dad Abhinav (also a #PBChamp) wrote to us one day to tell us about his daughters who love writing. While thinking about this language marathon, we wrote to ask him if they would be interested in participating. He said he would check and a day later, we had two stories sitting in our inbox! What better way to start this little marathon than with stories sent in by kids.

(Anvita is ten years old, a voracious reader, of all types of fiction. Like to draw and paint also.
Anika is seven years old, also a voracious reader. Likes to trouble her elder sister and read her books when she’s not around. You can follow their blogs too : Anvita’s blog, Anika’s blog)
