A Bear’s Discovery : Gumani’s Entry for the #6FrameStoryChallenge

It seems like illustrators across the country have been waiting for the opportunity to tell their own stories. And how amazing these wordless narratives have turned out to be! What do you think happens when a bear discovers a camera? Meet Gumani who is going to help you visualize just this.

Here’s what Gumani had to say on the experience of creating a 6-frame story:

“I like illustration challenges. It’s good to take a break from client work and put your art skills (and time management skills) to the test. I’ve always loved drawing whimsical things, and the idea of illustrating for kids (aren’t we all still kids?). Usually with work, there’s so much information you need to compress into an illustration, but with kids’ illustrations – it’s all about keeping it simple and neat. When we are children, we first get a glimpse of art through the books we read (or books we are read to). Knowing that your drawings might inspire a child to take up drawing or inspire them to conjure up their own stories is such a reward!”

(Gumani is a professional illustrator and tattoo artist based in Bangalore.
Her love for the great outdoors has helped her find inspiration in Mother Nature’s secret stash of goodies
and she occupies a great deal of her waking (and dreaming) time in the midst of wolves, skulls and plants
amongst other things.
Gumani has been tattooing for years right from college. She enjoys including animals, plants, flowers,
insects and all things magical into her tattoo and illustrative work. She loves the idea of feral girls
belonging to wolf tribes, kids living in forests and secret dreams of escaping into the wild.
Her other interests include binding books, collecting skulls, indie rock, collecting old junk, traveling and
having dreams where she is frequently chased by oversized leopards.
She is currently running her own studio and is open for freelance business. Visit her website or follow her work on Facebook)
