1. What is the process that I should follow while ordering books from the web site?
When you order Read India books from the website:
a. You select the titles you wish to order and load these into the
shopping cart
b. You check out from the shopping cart and you will be informed of
what the total amount is including courier charges
c. You will receive an email from us intimating you about your order
and total cost
d. Please send a local cheque / DD made out to "Pratham Books" to No.9,
Charles Campbell Road, Cox Town, Bangalore 560005
e. Once your cheque/DD is received we will ship the order to you within
ten days of receiving the payment

2. How can I pay for the books I have bought?
Pratham Books accepts local cheques (Bangalore, India) and demand drafts (for all outstation purchases) as payments for books. These can be made out to Pratham Books.

3. Why can’t I just send you an outstation cheque?
Pratham Books will not accept outstation cheques as the bank will charge us a processing fee of Rs. 100 per cheque. Since we are a non-profit organization this will add to our overhead costs which we try to avoid.

4. Will I get an exemption under section 80(G) of the Income Tax Act if I buy these books?
Unfortunately, the purchase of books does not entitle an income tax exemption as these funds are not considered a charitable donation. However, all donations made to Pratham Books for research and development are exempt from tax.

5. Do I have to buy a certain number of books?
You will have to buy a minimum of ten books for us to ship these to you. If you require an amount less than this then they will have to be purchased from our office located in Bangalore, India.

6. How long will it take for you to send the books to me?
If you live in India it will take us two weeks to ship the books to you AFTER we have received your payment. If you live abroad it will take four weeks for the shipment to reach you after we have received your payment.

7. Is there any other way to buy the books apart from ordering them online?
It is possible for you to place an order by calling our office in Bangalore, India. The contact details are available on the web site. You will have to quote the name of the book and the ISBN number also available on the web site.

8. Can I return/exchange books once I have bought them and they have been shipped to me?
Unfortunately, Pratham Books does not accept returns or exchanges on books that have already been purchased and shipped.

9. Is it possible for me to contribute stories and/or illustrations to Pratham Books? Will I get paid for this?
Yes! Pratham Books is always looking for interesting stories and talented authors/illustrators for developing new titles. We do pay a nominal fee IF we decide to publish your story/illustrations.
