PARO ANAND
Paro Anand is the author of thirteen books for children with 3 more
coming soon. She is published in several anthologies and has written
and spoken about children’s literature in almost every major newspaper,
magazine, television and radio channel including BBC London.
She headed the National Centre for Children’s Literature, National
Book Trust, India. She is a world Record holder for helping almost
3000 children make the World’s Longest Newspaper.
She was awarded by the Russian Centre for Arts and Culture for
her contribution to Children’s Literature. She represented the South
Asia region at the Readers and Writers Festival at Birmingham, U.K.
She also represented India at the British Council International
Seminar, Bath, UK and at Salon du Livre de Jeunesse de Montreuil
Paris. Her book, NO Gun’s at my Son’s Funeral has been selected
as the best book 2005 for the IBBY Honor List.
As a storyteller, she has performed her stories in many parts of
India, UK and Switzerland and France.
She now runs a program Literature in Action that trains children,
teachers and parents on the use of literature for the holistic development
of children. She has been Commissioning Editor for children’s books
with Rupa & Co. She will shortly launch The Reading Train, a
program for reading promotion in schools. She also has a program,
Books as Bridges that seeks to enhance greater understanding of
oneself and the world around through stories and break down barriers
and stereotypes. She has worked with the NGO Pratham for the buildiing
of a website of select Hindi books. She is currently associated
with the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, working with children who have
been impacted by terrorist violence.
