Activities Pratham Books is an active part of the Pratham Education Initiative, a national network that aims to achieve universal primary education in India. Pratham Books and Pratham have a similar mandate which is to create a Reading India. We have several programmes that aim to teach children how to read and sustain their interest by helping them develop a reading habit. Accelerated Reading Programme Pratham’s Accelerated Reading Programme combines the philosophy of child-centric learning with ‘reading aloud’ stories and the use of the phonetic ‘barakhadi’ charts for coding and decoding sounds, use of rhyming words, and an activity to ‘say what you want and write what you want’ . The end result is very encouraging. Children aged seven and above who can read words or letters but not paragraphs can be taught to read with comprehension in 45 days, with this cost effective technique. Today, more than 200,000 children have been through this programme. |
